Upon arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport, meet your local guide and transfer by private vehicle to your hotel. Standard hotel check-in is generally available from 13:30 or 14:00, while early check-in is subject to room availability and may involve an additional charge.

After check-in, relax at the hotel or explore Luang Prabang independently. You may rest after your journey or explore the nearby streets of Luang Prabang independently. Dinner is not included and may be arranged at a local restaurant of your choice.

Begin the day with an optional early-morning visit to observe the traditional alms-giving ceremony, followed by a walk through a local morning market before returning to the hotel for breakfast. Guests joining the ceremony should dress respectfully, remain quiet and follow the guide’s instructions regarding photography and appropriate conduct.

After breakfast, start your exploration of Luang Prabang’s religious heritage at Wat Visoun, followed by Wat Aham and Wat Xieng Thong. Set beside the river, Wat Xieng Thong is one of the city’s most important temples and is recognised for its sweeping roofs, decorative mosaics and traditional Lao architecture.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum, where exhibits provide insight into the Lao royal family and the cultural history of Luang Prabang. Conclude the guided program at Wat Mai, admired for its golden bas-reliefs and historical connection with the revered Prabang Buddha image.

The evening is free for independent exploration, and dinner is at your own arrangement.

After breakfast, travel into the countryside outside Luang Prabang for a responsible elephant experience focused on animal welfare, conservation and traditional mahout culture. Meet the elephant care team, learn about the animals’ individual backgrounds and observe them in a natural setting without elephant riding, performances or activities that could negatively affect their well-being. Exact activities may vary according to the sanctuary’s responsible-care program and the condition of the elephants.

Following lunch, continue through rural landscapes of rice fields, farms and small settlements toward Kuang Si Waterfall. On arrival, follow an easy forest trail past the bear rescue centre before reaching the limestone cascades and turquoise pools surrounded by tropical forest.

Swimming may be possible in designated areas, depending on weather and water conditions. Comfortable walking shoes, insect repellent, sun protection and a change of clothes are recommended.

After the visit, return to Luang Prabang in the late afternoon. Dinner is not included and may be arranged independently.

After breakfast, depart Luang Prabang and travel north through the mountainous landscapes of northern Laos. Stop at Ban Nayang, a village known for its traditional cotton weaving, where you can observe local artisans and learn about the techniques used to produce handmade textiles.

Continue to Nong Khiaw, a peaceful riverside town surrounded by dramatic limestone mountains, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, board an arranged long-tail boat for a scenic journey along the Nam Ou River.

During the cruise, admire forested mountains, riverside farms and small communities whose daily lives remain closely connected to the river. A short village stop may be possible depending on water levels, weather conditions and the boat’s operating schedule.

Arrive in Muang Ngoi, check in at a simple guesthouse and enjoy the peaceful evening at leisure. Dinner is not included and is at your own arrangement. Please note that accommodation and local facilities in Muang Ngoi are more basic than those available in Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng or Vientiane.

After breakfast, leave Muang Ngoi by boat and travel downstream along the Nam Ou River toward Nong Khiaw. Enjoy the peaceful scenery of forested hills, limestone cliffs and riverside communities throughout the journey.

Upon arrival in Nong Khiaw, continue by private vehicle toward Luang Prabang, with lunch served at a local restaurant along the way. In the afternoon, visit the sacred Pak Ou Caves, located near the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers.

Cross the river by local boat where required and explore the two limestone caves containing numerous Buddha images placed there by worshippers and pilgrims over many generations. Afterwards, continue to Luang Prabang and check in at your hotel in the late afternoon.

This is a full travel day involving both boat and road transfers, so the timing of the afternoon visit may vary depending on river conditions and the actual journey duration. Dinner is not included and may be arranged independently.

After breakfast, transfer to Luang Prabang Railway Station and board the Laos–China Railway for the journey to Vang Vieng. Travelling by train provides a faster and more comfortable alternative to the long mountain journey by road.

Train schedules and seat availability are subject to change. Passengers must carry their original passports and comply with current railway luggage and security regulations. Upon arrival at Vang Vieng Railway Station, meet your local guide and driver before transferring into town for lunch and hotel check-in.

Later, enjoy a leisurely long-tail boat ride on the Nam Song River, passing riverside farms and rural communities while taking in views of the limestone mountains surrounding Vang Vieng. The duration and operation of the boat trip may vary depending on weather, river levels and local operating conditions.

The evening is free for you to explore at your own pace, with dinner arranged independently.

After breakfast, visit Tham Jang Cave, one of Vang Vieng’s best-known natural and historical attractions. Reaching the cave entrance requires climbing approximately 150 to 170 steps, and some walking surfaces may be uneven or damp. Comfortable footwear and a reasonable level of physical fitness are therefore recommended.

From the elevated area near the cave, enjoy panoramic views over Vang Vieng, the Nam Song River and the surrounding limestone landscape. Afterwards, continue by private vehicle to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant upon arrival.

In the afternoon, visit Wat Sisaket, known for its cloister walls displaying numerous Buddha images, followed by Pha That Luang, the country’s most important golden stupa. Conclude the sightseeing program at the Patuxay Monument, a prominent city landmark decorated with traditional Lao architectural details.

The order and duration of the Vientiane visits may be adjusted according to the actual arrival time from Vang Vieng and local operating conditions. Transfer to your hotel after the tour, with the evening free and dinner at your own arrangement.

The remaining balance is due at least 10 days before departure.

Luang Prabang was a peaceful place to begin the trip, with its historic temples, local traditions and relaxed atmosphere. The countryside experience and visit to Kuang Si Waterfall were also enjoyable, giving us a welcome break from the noise and stress of daily life.
One of the most memorable parts of the itinerary was travelling north through Nong Khiaw and continuing by boat to Muang Ngoi. The river landscapes, mountains and quiet village surroundings made this section of the trip feel very special. Although the accommodation in Muang Ngoi was simple, the peaceful setting was part of the experience.
We also enjoyed the journey back to Luang Prabang via Pak Ou Caves before travelling by train to Vang Vieng. The scenery around the Nam Song River was beautiful, and the final visit to Vientiane was a pleasant way to complete the tour.

Our journey began in Luang Prabang, where we explored historic temples and learned more about the culture and history of Laos. Kuang Si Waterfall was one of the highlights for me. The turquoise pools, limestone cascades and surrounding greenery made it a beautiful and relaxing place to visit.
The trip continued north through Ban Nayang and Nong Khiaw before we travelled by boat along the Nam Ou River to Muang Ngoi.
