After breakfast, we'll begin our day with a visit to the Grand Royal Palace, a place dedicated to the ceremonial events of the Thai royal family. Within the same compound, you'll find the magnificent Wat Phra Kaew, renowned for housing the revered Statue of the Emerald Buddha. Following this, our exploration continues with a visit to Wat Pho, home to the colossal reclining Buddha.
In the afternoon, we'll head to the heart of Bangkok's city center to explore the Jim Thompson House. Our journey begins with the story of this American businessman and traveler, who dedicated his life to introducing Thai silks to the global fashion industry. You'll have the opportunity to explore his remarkable home, which showcases traditional Thai teak houses, with Thompson having assembled them from historic structures shipped to Bangkok from across the country. Discover the known facts and lingering mysteries surrounding Thompson's disappearance in the Malaysian jungle in 1967, and explore the impressive art collection he gathered during his 25 years in Thailand.
Overnight in Bangkok.
Early in the morning, we'll head southwest of Bangkok to explore some unique attractions. Our first stop is the Maeklong railway market, where you can capture captivating photos and savor local snacks. From there, we'll journey to Damnoen Saduak, a charming rural floating market. Here, you can take a motorboat ride along the waterways to reach the picturesque Damnoen Saduak floating market.
Afterwards, we'll continue our journey to the city of Kanchanaburi. Upon arrival, we'll visit the World War II memorial, which includes the Jeath War Museum and Cemetery. Later, we'll take a 30-minute train ride to experience the stunning views along the river. This historic railway is a remnant of the "Death Railway," a significant part of Southeast Asia's history. The train departs from the provincial capital to the Railway Station from Tonburi (or Namtok). Finally, we'll transfer to the city to visit the Kwai Bridge.
Overnight in Kanchanaburi.
In the morning, we'll set out for Ayutthaya, the former Thai capital, which is just over an hour's drive away. Here, you'll have the opportunity to witness the grandeur of this ancient city through its temple and palace ruins.
Our first stop will be Wat Phu Khao Thong, also known as the "Monastery of the Golden Mount," located just outside Ayutthaya. We'll then proceed to explore the ancient palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. During our visit, you'll also get to see Viharn Phra Mongkol Bopit, home to one of Thailand's largest bronze Buddha statues.
Lunch will be at your own discretion.
To conclude the day, you'll have the opportunity to visit Wat Lokaya Sutha, a temple that houses a substantial reclining Buddha image.
Overnight in Ayutthaya.
In the morning, our first stop will be the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, constructed during the Ayutthaya era. This palace is a unique blend of European, Khmer, Thai, and Chinese architectural styles and holds the distinction of being the King's favored summer residence.
Around noon, we'll transfer back to Bangkok. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. When it's time for your international flight, we'll arrange your transfer to Bangkok airport.
