The 4-Day Sapa Trekking Tour from Hanoi with Fansipan & Village Homestay is an active highland journey beginning and ending in Hanoi, combining Cat Cat Village, two rewarding days of Sapa mountain trekking, a local family homestay in Sa Seng Village and an included Fansipan cable car experience. The route connects Sapa with Ban Khoang, Sa Seng, Hang Da, Hau Chu Ngai, Giang Ta Chai and the Muong Hoa Valley area.
Begin with an introduction to Hmong culture and everyday village life in Cat Cat Village before trekking through terraced rice fields, cornfields, forested slopes and small mountain settlements. Spend a night with a local family in Sa Seng Village, then continue on a more demanding trail through changing highland landscapes toward Giang Ta Chai.
The final day takes you into the Hoang Lien mountain range by Fansipan cable car, with time to explore summit-area viewpoints when conditions allow. With guided trekking, Sapa hotel stays and private Hanoi–Sapa transfers, this itinerary suits travellers seeking meaningful cultural encounters, varied mountain scenery and a moderately challenging trekking experience.
Approx. 12–13 km | 5–6 hours walking
After breakfast at the hotel, begin your Sapa mountain trekking experience with a short drive from Sapa toward Ban Khoang, where your guided walk starts in the highland countryside.
Follow dirt trails through terraced rice fields, cornfields and scattered mountain settlements as you continue toward Sa Seng Village. Along the way, observe local farming activities and everyday village life while your guide shares insights into the customs, livelihoods and traditions of the ethnic communities living around Sapa. Stop at a suitable scenic location for lunch before continuing through the mountain landscape.
Arrive at Sa Seng Village in the afternoon and settle into a local family homestay. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax or take a gentle walk around the village while dinner is prepared.
In the evening, enjoy dinner with your hosts at homestay. A traditional Red Dao herbal bath may also be available when local arrangements and availability allow.
This is a moderate trekking day, involving approximately five to six hours of walking on dirt trails with both uphill and downhill sections. Comfortable walking shoes with good grip, lightweight outdoor clothing, sun protection and rainwear are recommended, as mountain trails may become muddy or slippery after rain.
Overnight: Local family homestay in Sa Seng Village.
Approx. 14 km | 5–6 hours walking
After breakfast at the homestay, continue your Muong Hoa Valley trekking journey toward Hang Da, following mountain paths through terraced farmland, forested slopes and small highland settlements.
As the trail gradually reaches higher ground, enjoy changing views across the surrounding valleys and mountains before continuing toward Hau Chu Ngai. Stop here for lunch and a well-earned rest before beginning the afternoon section of the trek.
Continue through pine-covered sections and cultivated hillsides toward the Muong Hoa Valley area. Along the way, pass local communities, a suspension bridge and a small waterfall before making your way toward Giang Ta Chai.
At the end of the trek, meet your vehicle for the transfer back to Sapa. Check in at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure, with dinner on your own arrangement.
This is the most demanding trekking day of the tour, with approximately five to six hours of walking across uneven mountain terrain and several sustained uphill and downhill sections. Sturdy walking shoes with good grip are strongly recommended, especially during wet weather. For safety and comfort, the exact trekking route may be adjusted by your local guide according to weather, trail conditions and the walking ability of the group.
Overnight in Sapa.
After breakfast, set out with your guide for your Fansipan Mountain experience. Travel to the cable car station and take the included Fansipan cable car into the Hoang Lien mountain range, enjoying changing mountain scenery as you ascend toward the summit area.
From the upper station, continue on foot through the mountain area and explore the viewpoints around Fansipan, where panoramic views may be enjoyed when weather and visibility conditions are favourable.
Return to Sapa around midday and enjoy lunch before meeting your private driver for the journey back to Hanoi. Short comfort stops can be made along the way as needed, with arrival in Hanoi later in the day and drop-off at your hotel or the agreed central location.
The Fansipan visit involves walking and sections of stairs at high altitude, although it is considerably less strenuous than the previous trekking days. Comfortable shoes and an additional warm layer are recommended, as temperatures near the summit can be noticeably cooler and conditions may be windy, cloudy or misty.
