The 4-Day Sapa Trekking Tour from Hanoi with Ta Van Homestay begins and ends in Hanoi, combining an overnight train to Lao Cai, guided trekking around Sapa, and a village stay in Ta Van. Travel north in an air-conditioned soft-sleeper cabin before continuing into the mountains for treks through Ma Tra, Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, Muong Hoa Valley, and Ta Van Village.
Your first walk leads to Ma Tra Village, where terraced farmland and a traditional Black Hmong community offer a closer look at highland farming, customs, and everyday life. The main trekking day follows mountain trails through Y Linh Ho and Lao Chai, crossing cultivated landscapes, rice terraces, streams, and rural settlements before reaching your Ta Van homestay for dinner and an overnight stay.
With a local guide, a gradual trekking pace, free time in Sapa, and a scheduled bus return to Hanoi, this tour is well suited to travellers seeking an active journey focused on mountain scenery and authentic village life.
Arrive at Lao Cai Railway Station early in the morning and meet your local guide and driver for the journey up into the mountains to Sapa. After breakfast and a short rest, leave the town behind for your first guided trek.
Follow rural trails toward Ma Tra Village, passing terraced farmland and mountain scenery along the way. The village is home to a traditional Black Hmong community, and the walk provides an introduction to local farming practices, customs and everyday life in the highlands.
After completing the Ma Tra Village trek, return to Sapa around midday for lunch. Check in at your hotel afterwards and take some time to rest and refresh.
The afternoon is free to enjoy Sapa independently. You may explore the town centre, visit the local market, spend time at a café or simply relax at the hotel. Dinner is at your own arrangement in this evening.
Walking Note: Today’s Ma Tra trek is relatively gentle compared with the longer trek on Day 3. Village paths may be uneven or muddy after rain, so comfortable walking shoes with good grip and suitable outdoor clothing are recommended.
Overnight in Sapa.
After breakfast, meet your guide and begin the main trekking day of the tour, following trails from the Sapa area down into the Muong Hoa Valley.
The first section leads toward Y Linh Ho, where mountain slopes, terraced rice fields and scattered Black Hmong settlements shape the landscape. Walking through the countryside gives you a closer view of the agricultural environment and rural communities beyond Sapa town.
Continue through the valley toward Lao Chai Village. Here, the terrain opens onto broader views of cultivated fields and surrounding mountains. Along the route, observe local farming activity and everyday village life before stopping for lunch.
In the afternoon, follow the trail farther through the Muong Hoa Valley to Ta Van Village, passing rice terraces, streams and traditional rural homes.
On arrival, check in to your local homestay in Ta Van and relax after the day’s walk. Dinner is served at the homestay, followed by an evening in the quieter village surroundings.
Trekking Note: This is the most physically demanding day of the tour, with several hours of walking over uneven mountain terrain and a combination of uphill and downhill sections.
Good walking shoes with reliable grip, comfortable outdoor clothing, sun protection and a lightweight rain jacket are recommended. Trails can become muddy or slippery during wet weather. Your guide may adjust the exact route according to weather, trail conditions and the group’s walking ability.
Overnight: Local homestay in Ta Van Village.
Begin the morning with breakfast at your Ta Van homestay, surrounded by the rural landscape of the Muong Hoa Valley.
Before leaving the village, enjoy some free time at your own pace. You may take photographs, look around the immediate surroundings or simply relax before continuing the journey.
Later, meet your driver for the transfer from Ta Van Village to Sapa. From Sapa, board a scheduled bus to Hanoi for the approximately 330-kilometre journey back to the capital.
The road journey generally takes around five to six hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Rest stops are made according to the scheduled bus service. Lunch is at your own arrangement in this day.
Arrive in Hanoi in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your 4-day Sapa trekking tour.
