The 5-Day Sapa Trekking Tour from Hanoi with Ta Phin Village Homestay combines an overnight train to Lao Cai, guided mountain trekking, ethnic village experiences and time in Sapa. Beginning in Hanoi, the journey continues through Cat Cat Village, Ban Khoang, Suoi Thau and Ta Phin, followed by a longer trek toward Sa Seng, Hau Thao and Muong Hoa Valley before returning to Hanoi.
Start with a relaxed walk through Cat Cat Village, where Hmong traditions, textile making, terraced farmland and Cat Cat Waterfall introduce the culture and landscapes of the Sapa highlands. The adventure then moves onto quieter trails around Ban Khoang and Suoi Thau, leading to an overnight Dao family homestay in Ta Phin Village. The following day brings the tour’s most demanding trek, crossing varied mountain terrain with views of rice terraces, scattered villages and surrounding ranges.
With guided trekking, coordinated transfers, included meals on trekking days and free time in Sapa, this itinerary suits active travellers seeking a deeper experience beyond central Sapa.
Arrive at Lao Cai Railway Station early in the morning and meet your driver for the road transfer into the mountains to Sapa. After leaving your luggage at the hotel and having breakfast, set out with your guide for a visit to Cat Cat Village. Walk through a Hmong community surrounded by terraced farmland and mountain scenery, learning about traditional textile making, fabric dyeing, farming practices and everyday village life. Continue to Cat Cat Waterfall before returning to Sapa for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, check into your hotel and take some time to rest following the overnight journey. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is free for your own exploration. You may walk around Sapa town, browse local shops and markets, relax at a café or simply enjoy some downtime at the hotel.
Overnight in Sapa.
After breakfast, leave Sapa by vehicle and travel toward Ban Khoang, where you begin today's guided Sapa trekking experience. Follow mountain trails through the countryside around Ban Khoang and Suoi Thau, passing terraced farmland, small local settlements and quieter highland landscapes away from central Sapa. Lunch is included during the trekking day.
Today's walk is more demanding than the previous day's visit to Cat Cat, with uneven trails, ascents and descents along the route. Good walking shoes with reliable grip, comfortable outdoor clothing and suitable protection from sun or rain are recommended.
Later in the day, continue to Ta Phin Village and settle into a local Dao family homestay. Spend the evening with your hosts, gaining further insight into local customs, family life and traditions while enjoying dinner together at the homestay. Subject to local availability and confirmed arrangements, there may also be an opportunity to experience a traditional Dao herbal bath.
Overnight: Local family homestay in Ta Phin Village
After breakfast at the homestay, meet your guide and begin the tour's most demanding trekking day, following a long mountain route from Ta Phin toward Sa Seng, Hau Thao and the Muong Hoa Valley area. The trail crosses highland terrain with a combination of ascents and descents, opening onto views of terraced rice fields, scattered villages and surrounding mountain ranges.
Enjoy an included picnic lunch along the way before continuing toward Hau Thao and the pre-arranged meeting point along the TL152 road. Your driver will meet you there for the transfer back to Sapa. After checking into your hotel, the remainder of the evening is free, with dinner at your own arrangement.
This is the most physically demanding trekking day of the itinerary and should be considered moderate to challenging. Expect several hours of walking over uneven mountain terrain, including uphill and downhill sections. Trails may become muddy or slippery after rain, and the exact walking route may be adjusted by your local guide according to weather, trail conditions and the walking ability of the group.
