The 8-Day Southern Vietnam Tour: Mekong Delta & Mui Ne Beach begins in Ho Chi Minh City and ends with a transfer from Mui Ne to Ho Chi Minh City Airport. The journey connects Saigon’s neighborhood food culture with the rivers and rural communities of Ben Tre, the trading traditions of Can Tho, and the distinctive coastal landscapes of Mui Ne.
Start with a Saigon Motorbike Street Food Experience before travelling into the Mekong Delta for river cruising, traditional craft workshops, narrow-canal rowing and cycling through rural Ben Tre. A stay at Mekong Home adds a more personal local experience with banh xeo preparation and family dinner. Continue to Can Tho for Binh Thuy Ancient House and an early boat trip through Cai Rang Floating Market, where river-based commerce remains part of daily life.
The final part of the tour brings a slower rhythm in Mui Ne, combining the White and Red Sand Dunes, fishing village and Fairy Stream with generous leisure time by the coast. With arranged transfers, included meals on key touring days and a balanced mix of guided experiences and free time, this itinerary suits travelers seeking both cultural depth and a relaxed finish.
After breakfast, leave Ho Chi Minh City and travel south into Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta, where rivers, narrow canals, coconut gardens and rural communities shape the landscape. Board a local motorboat and cruise along the Ben Tre River, continuing into quieter waterways surrounded by the countryside.
Along the way, stop to see traditional brick making and visit family-run workshops producing woven mats and coconut-based products. Enjoy seasonal fruit during the journey before changing to a small rowing boat for a slower passage through narrow canals shaded by water coconut palms. Lunch is included during the day before you continue with the afternoon program.
Later, continue to Mekong Home and settle into the countryside surroundings. In the evening, spend time with the host family and take part in preparing banh xeo, the crisp southern Vietnamese pancake traditionally made with rice-flour batter and savory fillings. Enjoy dinner with the family, followed by a locally offered foot massage.
Overnight at Mekong Home, Ben Tre.
Begin the morning with a guided cycling experience through rural Ben Tre, following small local roads through orchards, cultivated gardens and residential communities away from the main highways. Travelling by bicycle offers a closer view of everyday Mekong Delta life, with opportunities to observe local people tending fruit trees, working in their gardens and moving between neighboring communities. The ride is best suited to travelers comfortable cycling on rural roads; lightweight clothing, suitable footwear and sun protection are recommended, with rain protection useful during wetter periods.
After lunch, leave Ben Tre and continue by road to Can Tho. Before checking in, visit Binh Thuy Ancient House, a historic residence combining traditional Vietnamese architectural features with influences from the colonial period. Period furniture and decorative objects inside add further character to the house.
The evening is free to explore Can Tho independently or choose your own place for dinner.
Overnight in Can Tho.
Set out early by motorboat to experience Cai Rang Floating Market during the morning trading period. Unlike a conventional land-based market, commercial activity takes place directly on the river, where boats carry fruit, vegetables and other agricultural produce. Vendors traditionally use long bamboo poles to display what they are selling, while smaller boats may move between traders offering drinks, snacks and simple breakfast dishes.
As you travel through the market, your guide explains how river commerce has shaped everyday life around Can Tho. Cai Rang remains a functioning local market rather than a staged attraction, so the number of boats and intensity of trading may vary depending on the season, day and local business conditions.
After returning to the pier, leave Can Tho by road and travel back toward Ho Chi Minh City, stopping for an included local lunch along the way. Arrive later in the day and check in to your hotel.
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
After breakfast, leave Ho Chi Minh City and travel by private vehicle to Mui Ne, marking a change of scenery from the rivers and orchards of the Mekong Delta to Vietnam's south-central coastline. As you approach Mui Ne, the landscape gradually gives way to sandy terrain and coastal surroundings.
After arrival and hotel check-in, the rest of the day is deliberately left free. Swim, relax by the beach, enjoy the hotel facilities or explore the nearby area independently. If timing and weather are suitable, late afternoon is also a pleasant time for a walk along the coast or to enjoy the sunset.
Overnight in Mui Ne.
Today is dedicated to exploring the contrasting landscapes of Mui Ne, beginning with the White Sand Dunes, where broad stretches of pale sand create an almost desert-like setting away from the coast. Continue to the Red Sand Dunes, whose warmer tones and more compact landscape provide a noticeable contrast, before visiting Mui Ne Fishing Village to observe fishing boats, basket boats and the everyday working life of the local coastal community.
After an included lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Fairy Stream for an easy walk through the shallow waterway as it winds between sculpted red-and-white sand formations and patches of tropical vegetation. The walk is generally gentle, although the surface can be wet and sandy, so sandals or footwear that is easy to remove are recommended.
Return to your hotel later in the afternoon, with the evening free at leisure.
Overnight in Mui Ne.
Enjoy a completely free day in Mui Ne, with no scheduled sightseeing or guided activities. After breakfast, spend the day at your own pace: swim in the sea, relax by the pool or beach, enjoy the hotel facilities or explore the surrounding area independently.
This Mui Ne leisure day is intentionally kept unscheduled. After several days of travelling and guided experiences, it provides time to slow down and enjoy the coastal part of the journey without following another fixed itinerary.
Overnight in Mui Ne.
Enjoy breakfast and free time according to your confirmed departure schedule. At the arranged time, meet your driver and travel by road from Mui Ne to Ho Chi Minh City Airport for your onward flight.
Your departure transfer will be scheduled around the confirmed flight time, taking into account the road journey and the recommended airport check-in period. Hotel check-out and the amount of free time available on the final day will therefore depend on the individual flight schedule.
End of services.
