The 6-Day Ho Chi Minh City & Mekong Delta Tour: Vespa, Ben Tre & Can Tho begins and ends in Ho Chi Minh City, following a six-day route through Ben Tre and Can Tho. The journey opens with a Vespa Street Food Experience, followed by guided sightseeing at Independence Palace, Cholon, Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Temple.
From the city, travel into the Mekong Delta for a Ben Tre River Cruise, traditional craft visits, a family lunch and a rowing-boat journey through narrow canals. An overnight Ben Tre homestay, home-style Vietnamese dinner and herbal foot bath add a closer connection to local life. Continue with relaxed countryside cycling, a local market and family-run workshops before travelling onward to Can Tho.
The final Mekong morning features Cai Rang Floating Market, a rice noodle workshop and Ba Cong Garden before returning to Ho Chi Minh City. With airport transfers, guided activities, local transport and free time built into the itinerary, this tour suits international travellers seeking a varied introduction to southern Vietnam’s city culture, food traditions and river communities.
After breakfast, begin a guided exploration of Ho Chi Minh City’s historic centre, taking in some of its best-known architectural landmarks, including the Saigon Opera House, Notre-Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office. Continue to Independence Palace, one of the city’s key landmarks associated with Vietnam’s modern history, before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, travel to Cholon, Ho Chi Minh City’s historic Chinese quarter. Explore Binh Tay Market, long associated with the commercial life of the district, and visit Thien Hau Temple to gain insight into the area’s religious traditions and cultural heritage.
The visit provides a closer look at the long-established Chinese-Vietnamese community and the trading culture that has shaped this distinctive part of the city. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon, with the evening free for dinner and independent exploration.
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
After breakfast, leave Ho Chi Minh City and travel to Ben Tre, where coconut gardens, waterways and rural communities introduce you to the landscapes and everyday life of the Mekong Delta. At around 10:30, arrive at Ham Luong Pier and board a local motorboat for a cruise along the Ben Tre River. Along the way, stop at traditional brick-making facilities, a coconut-processing workshop and a family-run mat-weaving workshop, with opportunities to observe local production methods and enjoy tea and seasonal fruit.
Continue through the countryside by bicycle or local motor cart, depending on local arrangements, before having lunch with the Hai Ho family. Afterwards, board a traditional rowing boat for a slower journey through narrower waterways, offering a closer view of rural life along the canals.
Later, transfer to your Ben Tre homestay and enjoy some free time to rest or explore the surrounding village independently. In the evening, sit down to a home-style Vietnamese dinner prepared with local ingredients, followed by a traditional herbal foot bath using garden herbs and Sa Huynh salt.
Today's activities involve light walking and possible cycling on rural roads. Comfortable footwear, lightweight clothing and suitable sun or rain protection are recommended.
Overnight in Ben Tre.
After breakfast, set out on a guided Ben Tre countryside cycling tour along quiet village roads, passing coconut gardens, farming areas and local homes. Travelling at a relaxed pace offers a closer look at everyday Mekong Delta village life, with stops at a local market and small family-run workshops where you can observe traditional broom making and local soy sauce production.
After lunch at a local restaurant, leave Ben Tre and continue by road to Can Tho. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon and evening at leisure.
The cycling is relatively easy for travellers comfortable riding on local countryside roads, although some sections may be narrow or uneven. Comfortable footwear, lightweight clothing, sunscreen and rain protection are recommended.
Overnight in Can Tho.
After an early breakfast, board a local boat for a morning visit to Cai Rang Floating Market, where river trading traditionally takes place from boats carrying fruit, vegetables and other agricultural products. Observe the rhythms of commerce on the waterways while learning more about the trading traditions that have long been part of life in the Mekong Delta. The atmosphere and level of activity at the market naturally vary according to the day, season and local trading conditions.
Continue along the waterways to a family-run rice noodle workshop to observe the traditional noodle-making process, then visit Ba Cong Garden to explore a tropical orchard and taste seasonal fruit when available.
After the morning visits, leave Can Tho and stop for lunch at Mekong Rest Stop before continuing by road to Ho Chi Minh City. Arrival is expected in the late afternoon, subject to traffic and road conditions. Check in at your hotel and enjoy a free evening for dinner or independent exploration.
