Embark on a unique five-day journey to explore the lesser-known side of Vietnam: the captivating southern region. Discover the breathtaking Mekong River Delta as you traverse both land and water, immersing yourself in the vibrant culture and enchanting landscapes. Witness the renowned floating river markets on the delta, adding a touch of adventure to your unforgettable experience.
Departure for Tra Vinh, a province considered the cradle of Khmer culture in the Mekong Delta, but also marked by cultural influences from the Kinh and Hoa ethnic groups. On the way, there will be a stop at a bonsai garden or a nursery.
Upon arrival in Tra Vinh, the land of Theravada Buddhist Khmers, visit the Ang Pagoda, which was built in the 10th century. You will also explore the Khmer Culture Museum.
Lunch will be on your own before a short journey to the Sounsia Homestay.
In the afternoon, enjoy an unforgettable bike or walking tour (approximately 1-2 hours) through the countryside to discover the daily life of the locals.
Overnight stay with a local family in Cau Ke.
Accompanied bike ride (approximately 2 hours) through the countryside. We cross a large river on a public ferry and pass through several villages with vast rice fields to discover the daily life of the inhabitants and the monuments of the region, including some Khmer pagodas and the ancient house of Huynh Ky, located in the center of the town.
Return to the homestay.
We then travel by vehicle to Can Tho, the most dynamic city in the Mekong Delta. From Can Tho, we follow the course of the Bassac River on the right bank, at the outskirts of the Delta. Upon arrival in Long Xuyen, we embark on a motorboat to navigate the Bassac River, amidst lush vegetation. You will explore life and nature along the waterways in the small canals bordering Tiger Island.
Disembarkation on the island and a warm welcome by your hosts.
Dinner and overnight stay with a local family on Tiger Island.
Wake up at dawn to make the most of the bustling Long Xuyen floating market, a spectacular hub of commercial exchange. You will witness hundreds of boats stacked with various products and fruits, engaging in lively trade between the traveling merchants on each boat. Floating restaurants abound, offering soups and noodles as they move from boat to boat.
After the market experience, you will take your time to enjoy a boat ride along the waterways. A delightful stop is planned at local orchards to savor exotic fruits.
Return to the Long Xuyen pier where your vehicle awaits. We'll head towards Chau Doc, a charming town close to the southern border of Cambodia. The first stop is at the Temple of the Country's Goddess (Ba Chua Xu), a pilgrimage site for the people of the South, dedicated to Goddess Xu.
Next, you'll ascend to the top of Sam Mountain on a motorbike taxi to enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire plain. On the left side, you can spot the Cambodian border, while the surrounding countryside boasts a mosaic of rice fields.
Overnight stay at a hotel in Chau Doc.
Road transfer back to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Rest at your own hotel.
